The Philippine Tarsier

Home

The Philippine Tarsier (Tarsius Syrichtas) is undeniably one of our most important assets, a flagship attraction that has to this day become an icon not only of the Province of Bohol, but of the Philippines as well. It has become a potent unifying element of our Province geared towards sustainable development of its eco-tourism industry; a priceless God-given gift that has given us the unity and identity as a Province.

The Philippine Tarsier has been known to exists not only in Bohol, but also in Northern Mindanao and the islands of Samar and Leyte. But, wanton habitat destruction and hunting for the pet trade has practically decimated the Tarsier, that now, only in Bohol could a sizeable number be found. Its abundance in the Province is the gift that we have to treasure and keep.
